Navigate to the Global Forest Watch Fires Map.

There are three ways to choose the area that you want to subscribe to: you can draw or upload a custom shape, select a shape from a data set on the map, or pick a subnational region.

Subscribe to fire alerts for a custom area

1. Click on the Subscribe icon from the panel on the right-hand side of the map.

2. To subscribe to fire alerts for a custom drawn shape, select "Start Drawing" and drag your cursor on the map to draw a shape.

3. Click on your shape to make the "Subscribe to alerts" pop up appear.

4. Name your subscription and enter the email address and/or phone number where you would like to receive fire alerts.

5. Click "Subscribe" and you will receive a confirmation email. You must click on the link sent to your email to receive fire alerts.

6. Delete a shape you drew on the map by clicking on "Delete Feature" in the pop up.

7. To subscribe to fire alerts for an uploaded shape, drag a zipped shapefile into the box below the “Start Drawing” button. You can pull the shapefile directly from your file explorer or finder. The shapefile may take a few moments to load before it shows up on the map.

Note: Data can be uploaded in the following formats: Unzipped: .bna, .csv, .dxf, .gtx, .txt, json, .geojson, .rss, .georss, .xml, .gml, .gmt, . gpx, .itf, .kml, .kmz.; Zipped: .shp, dbf, .shx, .gml, .xsd, .itf, .ili, .tab, .map, .id, .dat, .vrt. Point features are not supported and the maximum recommended file size is 1 MB.

8. Use the “Choose name field” drop down menu to select the attribute you would like to use to name your shape (the drop down contains the headings of your attribute table).

9. Click on your uploaded shape to make the "Subscribe to alerts" pop up appear.

10. Name your subscription and enter the email address and/or phone number where you would like to receive fire notifications.

11. Click "Subscribe" and you will receive a confirmation email. You must click on the link sent to your email to confirm the subscription.

12. Delete a shape you uploaded to the map by clicking on "Delete Feature" in the pop up.

Subscribe to fire alerts for a shape from a data set on the map

1. First, toggle on the data set that you would like to subscribe to from the panel on the left-hand side of the map.

NOTE: You can only subscribe to concessions and protected areas data sets.

2. Click on a shape you are interested in on the map and a pop up will appear.

3. Click "Subscribe" to make the "Subscribe to alerts" pop up appear.

4. Name your subscription and enter the email and/or phone number where you would like to receive fire alerts.

5. you will then receive a confirmation email. You must click on the link sent to your email to confirm the subscription.

Subscribe to fire alerts for a province, district, subdistrict, or village

1. Click on the Basemap icon in the panel on the right-hand side of the map. NOTE: This feature is currently only available for Indonesia.

2. Click on one of the checkboxes to outline provinces, districts, subdistricts, or villages on the map.

3. Zoom into the map and click on an area you want to subscribe to. A pop up will appear.

4. Click “Subscribe” and you will be prompted to name your subscription and enter the email address and/or phone number where you would like to receive fire alerts.

You will then receive a confirmation email. You must click on the link sent to your email to confirm the subscription.
