GLAD Alerts Under Construction
By Mikaela Weisse You may have noticed that there haven’t been any new visualizations or subscription emails for GFW’s GLAD tree cover loss alerts in the last few weeks – we’ve encountered a bug that’s preventing us from registering new alerts in our system. Basically, it’s a big data problem: the alerts are so numerous and widely distributed that our back-end software has trouble crunching them for visualization. But don’t worry, we’re rolling out a new data management system in the next couple of weeks that solves this issue, and also allow us to expand the data to Brazil! In the meantime, let us know if you have an urgent need to explore the most recent data and we can get you access to our staging site. Downloads from the Open Data Portal are still working normally. Bear with us as we work through this issue, we will have the alerts updated and delivered more efficiently than ever in just a few weeks. Feel free to contact me with any questions!
